2017–2019 Mazda CX-5 key fob battery

- Get a new CR2025 cell from a fresh pack.
- Work over a table or soft cloth so small parts and buttons don’t get lost.
- Note which way the old battery faces before you take it out.

How to replace the 2017–2019 Mazda CX-5 key fob battery
- Press the release knob and pull the metal emergency key out of the fob
- Wrap the tip of a small flat screwdriver in tape, slip it into the gap and twist gently to pop the cover off
- Lift off the battery cap and remove the old cell
- Check the rubber seal is seated, then fit the new CR2025 with the + side facing up
- Refit the cap and cover, then slide the metal key back in
Confirmed in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 CX-5 owner's manuals (same CR2025 key). Mazda recommends a dealer if you are unsure, to avoid damaging the fob.
After you change the battery
- Press lock and unlock from a few metres away. The car should react on the first press.
- On push-button start cars, start the engine once with the fob in your pocket.

About the CR2025 battery
CR2025 is a 20 mm × 2.5 mm, 3 V lithium cell with a typical capacity of about 160 mAh. The same size is sold as DL2025, ECR2025, 5003LC. A CR2012 or CR2016 has the same diameter but is thinner, so it can fit loosely and runs down sooner. Stick with CR2025.
