How we verify battery information
A wrong battery size wastes your money and your time, so every vehicle page is built from a primary source.
Where the data comes from
- Owner's manuals published by the vehicle manufacturer (our main source).
- Manufacturer support pages for key and remote maintenance.
- Photos of the actual key showing the cell markings, when a manual is unclear.
How an entry gets published
- The battery type, quantity and opening steps are taken from the source and the source link is stored with the entry.
- The entry records the date it was checked. Pages show that date and link the source.
- A vehicle only gets a page once at least one key type for it has been verified this way. We don't publish guesses.
Vehicle list
Makes, models and model years come from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public vehicle database (vPIC).
Photos
- Vehicle and battery photos come from Wikimedia Commons under licences that allow reuse (public domain, CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA). Every photo shows its author, licence and a link to the original.
- Owner photos are sent in by readers who took them and agreed to publication. Each one is checked before it goes live, and location data is removed before upload. Share yours.
- Battery drawings are made by FobCells from the standard cell dimensions, to scale.
Spotted an error?
Keys can differ by trim and market. If your key uses a different cell than we list, check your own manual and tell us so we can re-check the entry. A photo of the battery inside your key helps most.
