- Work over a table or soft cloth so small parts and buttons don’t get lost.
- Note which way the old battery faces before you take it out.

How to replace the 2019–2021 GMC Sierra 1500 key fob battery (separate remote, Keyed ignition (Key Access remote))
- Pry the back cover off the remote with a coin or flat tool
- Push the old cell down toward the key-ring end and lift it out (no metal tools)
- Fit the new CR2032 with the + side facing up
- Hook the top of the cover on first, then press the bottom closed toward the key ring
How to replace the 2019–2021 GMC Sierra 1500 key fob battery (smart key, Keyless Access (push-button start))
- Press the button on the remote and slide out the metal key
- Push a thin, flat plastic tool into the centre seam and separate the back cover
- Lift the old cell out with a flat non-metal tool
- Fit the new CR2032 with the + side facing the back cover
- Press the two halves together and slide the key back in

After you change the battery
- Press lock and unlock from a few metres away. The car should react on the first press.
- On push-button start cars, start the engine once with the fob in your pocket.

About the CR2032 battery
CR2032 is a 20 mm × 3.2 mm, 3 V lithium cell with a typical capacity of about 225 mAh. The same size is sold as DL2032, ECR2032, KCR2032, 5004LC. A CR2012 or CR2016 or CR2025 has the same diameter but is thinner, so it can fit loosely and runs down sooner. Stick with CR2032.
